Karen Gridley, Accessibility Specialist at the Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry, will review interior spaces that are required to be accessible vs. spaces that are exempt. Elements and features of interior spaces will be covered to identify what make up an accessible space by taking into consideration the accessible circulation path, maneuvering clearances, reach ranges, protruding objects and built-in features. The “20% Rule” will be covered for the requirements that are triggered by alterations to spaces within existing buildings.

Karen Gridley, Construction Code Rep - Accessibility Specialist at Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry,
administers provisions of the Minnesota State Building Code. She ensures proper application of the code requirements as they relate to facility accessibility by providing building plan review of construction documents, and providing technical information assistance on new buildings, additions, and remodeled buildings owned by the State of Minnesota, public and charter school district building projects, state licensed facilities; and other buildings throughout the State upon request of local governments and other agencies.
