This 2 hour webinar will cover the following four learning areas of interest pertaining to design-build projects:
1. The Architect’s services, obligations, and level of liability exposure in an Architect led design-build situation
2. The Architect’s services, obligations, and level of liability exposure in a Contractor led design-build situation
3. Professional liability insurance coverage concerns for the architect in an architect led design-build situation versus the coverage concerns for the architect working under a contractor led design-build agreement
4. A discussion of ethical requirements for the Architect’s initial decisions in disputes between the Owner and Contractor, the Architect’s estimates of the Cost of the Work, and for the Architect’s review of Contractor’s applications for payment.

Jim Zahn is a licensed attorney and architect. As a registered architect since 1971, he brings a unique depth of knowledge of the construction industry. Having chaired the Illinois Council AIA Registration and Education Task Force (1983-1988) he received the AIA’s highest state award for assisting in the revision of the Illinois Architecture Act, still the current law governing the practice of architecture in Illinois. While working for some of Chicago’s largest and most prestigious architectural firms, he was involved in all phases of the practice, including production management, specifications, technical matters and legal concerns. His efforts involved the planning and construction of several thousand architectural projects. Jim became a licensed attorney representing architects in 1990. His understanding of both the legal and architecture professions gives him a unique insight that few other attorneys offer clients.

Tom Harkins, Principal, Client Services, Willis Towers Watson
Tom is a recognized expert on risk management issues affecting architects and engineers as well as project risk management. Tom has close to twenty years of experience within the AE industry where he differentiates himself by being a true advocate to his architect and engineer clients. In addition to developing insurance programs tailored to his clients’ needs, Tom personally provides his clients with risk management training and education, contract review as well as negotiation services and general consultation services. In addition Tom is also active within Industry associations where he serves on the National board for the Association of Licensed Architects and is on the Contracts and Risk Management Committees for ACEC.
