This annual event is an outstanding opportunity to enjoy an evening on the lakefront, learn and share the challenges of our profession with your colleagues.
The Milwaukee Breakwater Lighthouse is a landmark with rich history in the Milwaukee Harbor. It is almost 90 years old and has been empty for nearly 50 years. And, now it is slated to be reborn for the Milwaukee community to enjoy.
ALA is going to share its exciting history and planned restoration at the Annual Cook-Out on Tuesday,August 26th.
Dr. Randall Melchert, an Optometrist practicing in Brookfield, WI and founder of Optima Enrichment - a non-profit organization, purchased the facility from the United States Coast Guard. Optima Enrichment intends to invest $2.2 million to renovate and refurbish the lighthouse to provide public access that will enhance the many developments planned along the lakefront area for historic, educational and community enrichment.
Dr. Melchert along with John Curran, ALA, Principal at TWP Architecture, Milwaukee and the Lighthouse Project Architecture firm will present the entire story.

About our presenters:
Dr. Randall Melchert, O.D.
Dr. Randall Melchert,is an optometrist practicing in Brookfield, Wisconsin and president of WVCY ministries, a network of 15 radio stations and to television stations. He assists his entrepreneurialchildren with numerous projects, including charter schools in Milwaukee, food booths at the Wisconsin State fair, radio stations and residential rental property.
In 2004, he founded Optima Enrichment as a nonprofit corporation to help underprivileged children get transportation to attend camps, sporting events, visit colleges, and obtain scholarships. It has also provided Honor Flight transportation. In 2011, when the Milwaukee Breakwater Lighthouse was announced to be surplus Government property, Optima Enrichment applied and was granted ownership two years later.
John Curran, ALA
John is an Architect that has served as Principal at TWP Architecture, Milwaukee, WI for over 20 years. He maximizes design abilities to blend business development with Architectural aesthetics. John oversees multiple diverse projects and enjoys working with clients, fellow staff, and construction team members. He enjoys the challenges of each unique project by applying creative solutions to address and exceed the client’s needs. One of his personal goals is to make client’s projects and their office environment enjoyable and worth getting out of bed every day.
