This webinar will review the factors for architects to consider when developing a record retention policy.  There are many reasons that a proper record retention policy is a “must.”  In the unfortunate event that a firm or professional architect is sued for a design defect or negligence, having a proper documented history of your work is vital to your defense.  Further, parties can face sanctions if a court rules that relevant evidence was improperly discarded.

However in today’s digital age it is not as easy as maintaining paper files and records.  The universe of your digital work is subject to discovery in litigation and firms have a corresponding duty to preserve the records.  This program will explain why you need a policy, what records must be identified and preserved and offer best practices and protocols for discarding older records.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop an understanding of the rules and reasons for preserving project records.

  2. Identify the types of information that must be secured.

  3. Explore the factors in determining how long to keep project records.

  4. Review the best practices in crafting the appropriate policy and the manner to notify your clients of the protocol for preservation at your firm.
