This class provides an overview of glazing properties and framing systems. Our expert presenters, Jeff Boldt and Tom Culp, will explain glazing from 30 years ago to the cutting edge technology of today. Terms and certifications will be covered. We will also discuss what's new in framing and how to achieve optimal performance. 
 
Learning Objectives:
1. Learn about glazing properties and what has changed over the years.
2. Explore terms for glass from smart glass to vacuum insulated.
3. Analyze high performance framing and thermal barrier technologies.
4. Discuss window certification and performance data.
5. Understand glazing coating performance and to which layer of glass to apply them.

Presented by:
Jeff Boldt - Jeff is a Managing Principal and the Director of Innovation and Quality at IMEG, a 1500+ person firm. He is a licensed Professional Engineer with 40 years’ experience in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and acoustical design. He is registered in both Mechanical and Fire Protection engineering. 
Jeff has served as Project Manager and Design Engineer on many award-winning projects; including the Agronomy Laboratory, which won the ASHRAE International Technology Award for the best HVAC design of the year and appeared on the cover of the ASHRAE Journal. He is LEED AP accredited and received ASHRAE’s High-performance Building Design Professional accreditation.
Jeff is a member of ASHRAE, ASHE, ASPE, SFPE, WHEA, and the WHEA Code Committee.

Tom Culp, Ph.D. - Owner, Birch Point Consulting LLC
Birch Point Consulting provides engineering and strategic consulting services in the areas of energy efficient window performance, building code development, glass performance, and glass coatings. Tom is co-vice-chair of the ASHRAE 90.1 committee, former NFRC Board of Directors (ex-officio), works on ICC code development, and led 3-year DOE-funded research project on low-e storm windows, panels, and glazing retrofits to improve energy efficiency of existing buildings.
