1-2:30 PM CDT, Thursday, October 21, 2021

Speaker: Kim Paarlberg, ICC Senior Staff Architect, Codes and Standards

Description:
The presentation discusses ICC standards and how they are currently referenced in the model building codes. This presentation will also address updates to the standards, with additional emphasis on the significant changes to the 2017 ICC A117.1, Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities and ICC 500 Design and Construction of Storm Shelters.

Goal:
The goal of this seminar is to familiarize building officials, fire officials, plans examiners, inspectors, design professionals, contractors, and others in the construction industry with some of the important changes in the ICC standards.

This seminar is designed to assist those code users in identifying the specific changes that have occurred and, more important, understanding the reason behind the change.

The four learning objectives for the attendee will be:

  1. Identify how ICC standards are referenced in the codes.
  2. Explain what technical provisions each standard covers.
  3. Identify key changes in organization and standard requirements.
  4. Identify the applicability of the design, plan review and inspection requirements.
