Description:
Andrew Czajkowski, AIA of SK+I Architects, will discuss the evolution of the shopping center and regional mall over the past 20 years; from the early 2000’s transition to lifestyle driven town centers to today’s more integrated neighborhoods.  He will discuss several projects he has been associated over the past 20 years to illustrate this evolution, and then focus on 2 regional Chicago area malls that are currently at the beginning of their next transformative redevelopment
.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the underlying reasons driving the need for redevelopment and change.
  2. Identify the complex array of zoning, land use, and existing conditions that development and design teams need to navigate.
  3. Analyze the redevelopment areas and how to integrate thoughtful urban and building design to create new and vibrant places.
  4. Illustrate the vision and collaboration needed by the Development Team, Design Team (including Architects, Planners, Engineers, Landscape Architects, and branding designers), and local planning staff to execute and deliver these types of projects.
